Looking Ahead to Fall in Chapel Hill

Fall is one of my favorite times of year in Chapel Hill. The temperatures begin to cool, football season returns, and there are plenty of ways to get outside and enjoy everything our area has to offer.

Whether you're planning a weekend adventure or looking for something closer to home, here are a few fall activities to add to your list. 

Cheer on the Tar Heels

Fall in Chapel Hill wouldn’t be complete without Carolina football. Head to Kenan Stadium for a home game, enjoy the energy around campus, and spend some time on Franklin Street before or after kickoff. There’s nothing quite like a Carolina game day.

Take in the Fall Foliage

You don’t have to travel far to enjoy the changing leaves. Spend an afternoon exploring the North Carolina Botanical Garden, Carolina North Forest, or one of the area’s many greenways and trails. If you’re up for a day trip, the Blue Ridge Parkway is always worth the drive once the fall color arrives.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Corn Maze

Head into the countryside for pumpkin patches, corn mazes, seasonal treats, and enjoy a crisp fall afternoon outdoors. McKee Cedar Creek Farm in Orange County creates a new corn maze each year, making it a fun local tradition and an easy way to enjoy the season without venturing far from Chapel Hill. 

Spend a Day at the North Carolina State Fair

Making the short trip to Raleigh for the North Carolina State Fair is always a fun way to celebrate the season. Between rides, food, entertainment and traditions, there's something for everyone.

There’s a lot to look forward to this season, and fall has a way of reminding me just how much there is to enjoy in and around Chapel Hill.
